FLORAL ART NOW FLOWER PHOTOGRAPHY PRINTS ON YOUR WALL

These tulips grew in my garden, waiting eagerly them again this spring.

The shop is open for one week, 17-24th of March. I've promised it so many times and now it's real. Go and see and pick your favorite. You can find my shop here. Welcome!

I'm Fine is the name of this work. The most popular photo at the moment in my shop.

There are two sizes. 20cm x 25cm and 32cm x 40cm. If you like to have a bigger one then you can mail me: kreetta.jarvenpaa@gmail.com. If you live in EU you can buy online but if you are from other countries then please send me e-mail and we can take it forward from there.

These tulips I photographed at my workspace in January 2018.

Winter feeling in January, 2019.
I have this thing to get emotional when I work with flowers. Sounds familiar? If I manage to create something I really really like, I have tears in my eyes.  Quite many of these have brought me tears in a good way.

All the works in my shop are special for me in some way. We all have our own life, experiences, memories, hopes and dreams and we find different kind of things beautiful. I tried to choose different kind of photos for the shop but till now there have been couple of subjects that have been the most popular.

Blue prints are fascinating and poppies are amazing.
Moonstone, 2018 I already bought some China Aster seeds also Moonstone seeds. Yummy!

Like a painting. I got assignment from The Green Garden magazine and this is what I did.

Yes, I've also asked to photograph light backgrounds. I did. Can't get enough of these French Tulips. You can find these beauties in the newest Asun magazine but in different photo.

You can find such a variety of colors in one flower. Perfect for a flower arrangement.

Poppies, Poppies and Poppies. Need to say more?
You have nine pics to choose from in my shop. Which one is your favorite?

Some news coming up too! Next flower workshop weekend will be on 4-5.5. May. Saturday will be flower arrangement workshop and Sunday flower photography workshop Sign up will open in April. Follow my IG or FB. If you want to join in my mailing list, mail me: kreetta.jarvenpaa@gmail.com

I also have a tip for you. When you buy a dark print like mine then you should buy non reflective glass like Artglass AR 70™, Museum Glass®  and the glass should not touch the photo. A tiny gap is enough. So a small piece of thin cardboard is fine but it should be  acid-free.

creative flower workshop photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengetchen.com

Welcome to see bits of last Sunday when we had our relaxed creative day with flowers at työhuone ovi 10.

creative flower workshop photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengetchen.com

We made Creative Flower Workshop together with lovely and talented Laura Syväniemi from Lovejunedesign. A day was combination of making a flower arrangement, photographing it and having a delicious lunch and dessert by my dear workspace colleague cook and book author Meri-Tuuli Lindström.

Getting to know chicken wire.

It's amazing how silent it can be when all the ladies are concentrating in creating the flower arrangement.

From the Laura's gorgeous flower bar students could take so many beautiful flowers.

It has been super fun to plan and make the workshop happen with Laura. Here she is telling about roses. Flowers have their own nature. Some of them are very fragile, some very straight, some very difficult to maintain and the list is endless. There are lots of things to learn. I wish I had made my 10 000 hours already but no - I'm in chapter one.

creative flower workshop photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengetchen.com

It's amazing to see how different the flower arrangements are from same flowers. I have arranged already quite a few flower workshops since August 2016 and not in any of them people made the same. I think we bring a lot of our personality to our work and I think that is wonderful and THE thing. We can be creative in so many ways. In workshop we try to support students own creative process. For me one very important thing in creating is feeling relaxed. I sure you it makes things easier with better result. But we all have our own way to create so whatever works for you - use it.

creative flower workshop photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengetchen.com

Be never hungry when creating - that is almost my rule number one. I get easily distracted if I am hungry not forgetting I need a good music while working.

This pic above is a beautiful flower arrangement by it's creator. But when you bring it in front of the camera there are some things you see more clearly. It's different if this arrangement would be on the party table. It's backround isn't so clear and it's looked at from almost every angle. In photo you can see only one side. Together with student we made it ready for the photo. I try to help student to see the problems or the challenges in the arrangement when we are photographing it. We try to balance and shape the work as beautiful as possible.

See the difference?
This gorgeous flower arrangement is by Eeva.

I hope you enjoyed the post. Maybe even got excited about flowers? You are always very welcome to our flower workshops. We don't just make a flower arrangement, we want to create a full relaxed and creative experience for you. After the workshop you have a beautiful flower arrangement, a pic of it in your camera or phone, great experince of tasty food and hopefully your mind is relaxed and full of inspiration.

Quite nice don't you think?

Thank you for all our lovely students!

Have a lovely weekend <3

TRENDING FLOWERS

CREATING WITH FLOWERS

Since the last August I've been organizing flower workshops at my workspace työhuone ovi 10. Why? Purely because I love love love flowers. At työhuone ovi 10 there are 5 creatives working. We all have our own room plus we share a big space where we can make different kind of things like workshops. Today I made a photoshooting with flowers. I want to learn and this is how I do it.

I did 6 workshops with floral designer Hanna Piippo during autumn. First one was with ecological lifestyle magazine Huili. It's my favorite magazine in Finnish of course. I made a blog post about the workshop, you can read it here.  Idea of flower workshops has been a success and I've noticed that now it's really trending.  Not to mention all kind of workshops. Helsinki is buzzing, people are organizing workshops a lot and I think it is a great thing because these one day or shorter workshops gives us a chance to learn something new without longer commitment. With other words - fun learning.

I had an idea of flower workshop more than two years ago before I could make it happen. I've been an independent professional photographer and artist over two years now and I have been so thrilled to develope my ideas to reality. Workshop doesn't just happen, you make quite a lot of work before it does. In January I had one intimate workshop on my own with very small group. It wasn't only about flowers it was about composition in still life. But of course we had flowers too with vintage props and fruits. Very classic.

The latest news is Creative Flower Workshop by Laura Syväniemi from @lovejunedesign She is Finnish talented stylist and floral designer who has worked and lived in Australia but now she has returned to Finland. I was happy when I found her because her work is very beautiful and she has a very good eye for colors and style. We can learn a lot from her. Her work has been in international wedding blogs like Magnolia Rouge and Adorn Magazine.

With Laura I have planned carefully our very first workshop. We want to make your day relaxed with beautiful flowers, photography and with tasty food by talented cook and cooking book author Meri-Tuuli Lindström. It is on Sunday 12 of March. Go and see more information in FB event. You will find it here. We will have another one on Sunday 23th of April. You will find it here.

Binding sign-up e-mail me:kreetta.jarvenpaa@gmail.com
That's all folks!
Take care and have a lovely weekend!

KUKKA WORKSHOP

ARTIFICIAL LIGHT - CAN YOU USE IT WHEN PHOTOGRAPHING FLOWERS?

flower workshop photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

Familiar things. Comfort zone. For me going after artificial light with flowers was a big big question mark. For me flower photography has been all about natural light. But as I live in north - Finland - we really don't have much of the light during November, December or January either and I have to photograph then too. Yesterday we had the flower workshop at our workspace in the evening so I needed to try other options than natural light. I rented led light and here you can see the results.

flower workshop photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

Not bad. But not exactly the same at all. All these things are matter of the taste for sure. Many times there are not enough natural light or you really have to think where and when to photograph. With artificial light you are not depending at all from the giant big lamp above us. But still...

flower workshop photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

For us in kukka workshop it is important that people get a pic of their work before they leave the workshop. That is because of many reasons but the one is that the arrangement might not survive in it's beauty to student's home door.

flower workshop photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

It's also important to document the arrangement that you can get back to it and see how you develope your skills. By comparing pics of the flower arrangements together - it's easy to see. You don't need any high end camera. With this light you can shoot with smart phone too...ok, it's pro photography light and too expensive in home use and some troubles always with smart phones with right exposure but you can do it!

flower workshop photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

I just love to see student's work so it's very helpful to use certain hashtags and they are much easier to find like we use #kukkaworkshop

Beautiful textures, tones, lines, scents, colors, shapes, thickness, airiness, diagonals, contrasts and many more. When making a flower arrangement you are like an artist who just happen to paint with flowers. Sounds tempting? For me? Yeah!

Next flower workshops will be on 19-20th of November during the weekend and they are all about Christmas. We will be at Työhuone ovi 10 and we will use natural light as much it is possible.  So if you are planning to use camera take your tripod if you have one. I will make a biggest ever background for you with different shades of white. More information here in FB event.

Teachers: Florist Hanna Piippo @piippohanna Photographer and Artist Kreetta Järvenpää @kreettakreetta  Food: Health Coach Maia Söderlund @maiasgreenmedicine

Any questions?

See you there!

KUKKA WORKSHOPS COMING UP IN OCTOBER

LEARNING NEW SKILLS

If ever - it's now.

After a very busy week I finally had a chance to play with these cuties. I bought them during this week and I was a bit of afraid they will be wilted before I have time to make something out of them.  I'm always a bit unsure when I begin with my flower arrangement. How about you?

flower arrangement photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

But getting started makes my creative soul sing. It's flower therapy.

flower arrangement photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

In love with details. Odd textures and forms. Colors and tones. Mixing them all together.

flower arrangement photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

Just can't remember all the names of the flowers and plants. That is a bit annoying. Don't know if it's only my problem, haha.

flower arrangement photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

Surely it takes sometime and I took pics while building the arrangement and went to computer few times to see if everything is just in the right place. Many times they weren't but now I think they are - surely could do better. I  was building the arrangement for the picture only so one side mattered.

flower arrangement photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

I think the moment when you can say this arrangement is ready - no changes anymore - is the most hardest moment of all. I know I'm only on the way because it is still very hard to say: It's ready. But you know what they say 10 000 hours practise is needed to be a professional. Well, I hope it's less though...and do I have to be a pro? Anyway it is very very relaxing to work with flowers that is for sure and when you do it only for the camera you can break a lot of rules - that is so cool. Well, that is another story.

But if you like to learn how to make a luxurious, modern and relaxed flower arrangement, you should come to our Kukka workshop at työhuone ovi 10. I have invited talented florist Hanna Piippo to teach you the most beautiful flower arrangement on 13-14th of Oct and I will teach and help you with photographing the arrangement. Teaching is in Finnish. You can find more information about the workshop in Facebook event you can find here.

Come along!

Have a lovely Sunday!

It looks like a candy store. I found talented florist Hanna Piippo from Stockholm to work with us. I arranged this workshop together with ecological lifestyle magazine Huili.

It was great to work with Huili team. I hope you can get to know the magazine. It's worth to read.
