In The Beautiful Garden

Friend's garden photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

Hello hello! How are you? We made a one week trip to our relatives and friends and we had so much fun. Weather has also been very warm - this doesn't happen so often in our country. Most of the summer it has been too cold and now some say it's been too warm, haha.

Gluten Free Strawberry Cake

gluten free strawberry cake photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

Who wouldn't love strawberries?

I totally do and I'm so happy I had time to make this cake today full of strawberries. Once again I find myself baking on the day when I should be packing for summer trip and planning my business...

Well, we already got some strawberries in freezer - hooray for that! Blueberries are next on the list...

One thing more, this cake is gluten free and dairy free. I used potato starch in baking and used soya cream in filling and of course made some meringue with almond and pecan topping. Voilà...now we can eat it, yay!

Tomorrow we are going to celebrate our dear lovely friend by going to Pori Jazz together to see Pet Shop Boys and it's not a sin to eat a half of the cake tonight, nope sure not...Have a lovely summer weekend!

Precious Wild Flowers

wild flowers photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

Today I have time to make my precious wild flower post as I promised you. I have to say that we collected them in the last minute because next day they were gone from the field. They were cut down - like every year.

Dinner in the Garden

mexican garden dinner photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

Today we decided to go with mexican food. In the summer the best thing at home is to have a dinner in the garden. You get an extra room for whole summer. Of course we wanted to have an extra cool dinner because we have a guest - our godchild.

Dinner was lovely. It's a good start to fine weekend. Now we are listening Thriller and buying tickets to movie called American Hustle. I hope it's good. Have you seen it? Did you like it?

Have a lovely weekend!

Iceland vol 2 - black beach in Snæfellsnes peninsula

Iceland black beach photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com

I was amazed. Blackness was very powerful. Tough and rough. No for sweet and cosy. Carved with an axe - so to speak.

Powerful sea meets vulgano.

Frozen trolls, giants. When I took this photo, I could see something - a frozen movement, faces of trolls, giants...pulling something...like old-fashioned fisherman did.

Can you imagine what kind of life these men have had? Story goes that they competed by lifting stones in this beach...who is the strogest? I guess you should be - life was not too easy then. Look at their clothing.

Black on black. This kind of landscapes takes you to the land of imagination. It's easy to imagine, how different kind of artists have been inspired by all of this and many more. I'm going to continue my Iceland story with few more posts. I was very lucky to be there.

Iceland vol 1 - Snæfellsnes peninsula

Iceland photo by Kreetta Järvenpää www.gretchengretchen.com
Oh Iceland. In near future you will see in my blog many posts of this country and food photography workshop in Reykjavik. I also will show you north Finland and some vintage treasures for sure. At the moment it is also the best time of the year to photograph in garden so you might see that too - not forgetting DIY. Well back to Iceland...I photographed a lot in workshop and on a bus tour. I have to admit, I fell in love with Iceland. It truly is the country of fire and ice. Strange, unbelievable, international but rough and small.

There is a lot of light on summer time that you should take your eye shades with you. I couldn't sleep well, I was too excited about everything. Loved every minute of it. When I came back home I slept straight away many hours, haha..and still trying to get rid of the tiredness. But it was worth it!!!

We made a great bus tour on Snæfellsnes. It's a little bit north from Reykjavik. It was raining when we left from Reykjavik. The bus tour took 13 hours so there were, sunny moments and rainy too. Wind was blowing quite strongly. We saw sheeps, Icelandic horses, seals and small houses next to mountains and yes, lot of mountains.

We visited beautiful fishing village Stykkishólmur. Lovely details, restaurants, boats, old houses, mountains and top of those sun gave us nice soft light.

Short Sneak Peak - With Aran in Iceland

I'm back from Iceland and I'm having a bit hard time with lack of sleep...haha...so the first blog post of Food photography workshop with Aran is short.

I've met beautiful and lovely people - that is for sure. Miss them already. Seen so beautiful and rough shaped country - Iceland. Want to go back. You know, there is something powerful when people around the world meet and share their interest with wonderful and talented Aran Goyoaga. I recommend.

What I learned? On first day I learned that please avoid shining plates. They are difficult. Here's my try. It's about composition and light not so much food there, haha. Only ingredients. I had this blue cloth with me which was quite challenging with food what we had.

I'll be back with some eye candies of our workshop and Iceland. Stay tuned.
