Handmade presents - one coming up - Käsintehdyt lahjat valmistuvat

You might have the same phase at the moment as I. You might feel happy that you've made present for your beloved one that you also really like! You can't wait to hear does she/he like it! I guess giving presents is more exciting than getting one. I'm already counting the days.

Omat lahjat eivät jännitä ollenkaan niin paljon kuin ne lahjat, jotka olet itse tehnyt ja odotat innolla tai kauhulla mitä saaja niistä tykkää! Hitaasti mutta varmasti ovat lahjat melkein kaikki jo paketissa...ja siitähän sitten se varsinainen jännitys alkaakin.

I got inspiration of course from Pinterest. Ideas comes and goes and we are recycling the most of them again and again. But everytime the idea gets something new with different maker.

One might say that I can't live without photoshop! I'm a photographer. But this time I had to. Photoshop Elements helped me and yes you can do basic things with that quite easily but still...anyway I found...or to tell the truth actually my husband found these lovely ones from fleemarket where we were few weeks ago in Lohja. A box full of vintage matchbox series. I think these aren't really old but still they do look quite tempting. These are made by Swedish Jönköpings Tändsticksfabricks Aktie Bolag. I do like their appearance. Art pieces in small size.

I like vintage typography and lucky me I'm not the only one. I bought one really nice vintage typography book  and posted about it in June. I found fun post about Madrid's vintage sign typography in Poppytalk by Serena Olivieri and she referred to Tracy Castro's post  about Texas typography in Poppytalk. Typography is more than only appearance. What typography tells about certain place like Texas as Tracy asks. And I'm wondering what typography tells about time of these matchboxes? Certainly there is much more decorative style in those boxes what we have had for awhile in our everyday products. They look like more carefully done. They are just matchboxes but still they look like more precious because of their appearance...and lame truth might be that maybe they were only part of the time and no exception. But then I have to say I like the apppearance of that time. There's some elegant glamour in it. But the message is still the same. I mean as you can read the written text on the box... I only use Swedish matches...well that is very popular slogan - still.

This is the book to have. It's Scripts: Elegant Lettering from Design's Golden Age by Steven Heller and Louise Fili. Inspiration to your work or DIY. Old-fashioned fonts and vintage feel.

I love old neon light written signs. Few weeks ago I was in Montenegro in Budva and there were so many old-fashioned signs next to the beach. I was wondering why...never got the explanation but they were so pretty and gave the place a little bit old-fashioned style and spirit. But back to the book... I saw this book very first time in great blog called Book By Its Cover . This blog is really my favorite and I made an book order straight away to Amazon. I have found many lovely and useful books through this blog. It is illustrator, pattern designer and author Julia Rothman's book blog. But she's another story, I promise. Here's a peek to the book presented.

And then I have to mention another fontadelic book that I unfortunately don't have - yet! I just saw it in Wit&Whistle blog. Thanks for Amanda's fine blog, I found really great book called Typography Sketchbooks by Steven Heller(him again!) and Lita Talarico. It's worth to look maybe even worth to buy.
