COLOR IS MY POWER

Welcome to exhibition! These are my paintings from autumn 2014 to spring 2015. We made a group exhibition called VÄRIVOIMAA! with our painting class and the exhibition just ended in Herttoniemi sairaala. I decided to show you some of my work because I've been talking about it here in my blog quite a lot. So here we go! The first one is called neiti Hattara (ms Cotton candy, 2015)

Korento 2015 (acrylic/mixed media/65cm x 63cm) |
I have found painting very relaxing and powerful source of strong positive impact. I started about three years ago and before that I thought I couldn't do it. I'm not talented enough. Well some might still think so but I don't. I can and I've noticed that my life is more fullfilled now than before painting.

Hanami 2015 (acrylic/87cm x 68cm) |
Hanami is my favorite and it will be on our living room's wall. It took 2 years before it was ready. It is the longest time I've painted one work. There are many different kind of layers.

I have explained my style to paint as a free feeling of the rules - do's and don'ts - I am a photographer and there are rules you have to obey when you are taking photos. You are not free - you have to remember so many things. I love painting because you can do things you can't do with your camera. You can always do it again. You can change it and it might be a long process before the painting is ready. There is a lot of things happening between the beginning and the end. I love to just take a color and let my inner voice, intuition, lead the way. Of course it is always connected to what I see. I have to admit though...it's not always a good way and you really have to think time to time what to do next. So most of the time you can go with the flow.

Valo 2015 (acrylic/75cm x 57cm) |
There are works you like and there are works that other people like. For me it's interesting to hear what people think about my work. It doesn't matter if they don't like them. I think it is a part of a learning process as a painter.

Jäljet 2015 (acrylic/100cm x 75cm) |
Most of these paintings were in Herttoniemi sairaala exhibition. There were 10 painters so you can imagine that the space was limited and actually that is a good thing. Our teacher Alina Sinivaara was curating the exhibition. I'm very grateful for her because she's been a lovely teacher. It's so important what kind of teacher you have when you start something you are not sure of. If you get good feedback and encouraging words even though every work isn't good one that matters...what ever you are learning. It's also important to listen and I try to listen as good as I can.
I hope you enjoyed the tour. If my work gave you some thoughts, please don't hesitate to share it with me and others. Thank you!

ps. It's not so easy to me to show my paintings - but I guess this is one part of the learning process too...
So lovely to find you Gretchen!
ReplyDeleteI found you through "Rose" Ariane :)
Your paintings are amazing... truly beautiful work.
I agree so much about the wonderful feeling of freedom of expression painting gives you :)

Aivan ihania tauluja, lempivärejäni monessa! Ilo, että olet löytänyt maalaamisen!
ReplyDeleteKiitos kiitos Karo-Liina! Kauhea syyhy on sormissa, että pitäisi päästä maalaamaan taas mutta nämä valokuvaajahommelit vie oman aikansa :) Iloa syksyyn!
